The Borneo Adventure Race returned this year with a multi-day format combining jungle trekking, river crossings, and mountain-bike sections across Sabah's rainforest terrain. Teams of four navigated between checkpoints with minimal outside support.

Unlike single-discipline races, adventure racing rewards teams that can balance different skill sets — organizers noted that several strong individual athletes were eliminated early after underestimating the navigation and teamwork components.
